A family-run team rooted in Newcastle!
The story of Floor.Co begins with David Thompson’s grandad, Jimmy, a well-known floor layer from Walker, Newcastle. Jimmy spent years working for local companies like Rowen & Boden, and young David loved nothing more than heading out on jobs with him, earning a bit of pocket money while picking up some handy skills.
David’s dad, Dave, never went pro in the flooring trade but was always on hand to help family and friends with their carpet needs. To this day, he still gives David a hand in the business, keeping it a real family affair.
School wasn’t David’s strong suit. He often found the classroom a tough place to focus, which led him to alternative education from Year 9. This experience shaped his passion for supporting young people who, like him, didn’t find their feet in the traditional school system. David believes that everyone deserves an education tailored to their skills.

A Timeline of Flooring Greatness
David Thompson’s journey started early, learning the trade from his grandad Jimmy, a well-known floor layer from Walker, Newcastle. David’s dad, Dave, helped out too, fitting carpets for family and friends.
David began his flooring career with Sandafloor in Gateshead, learning the ropes on both commercial and domestic jobs. When the company folded, David went self-employed.
After years of graft, David launched Floor.Co, opening his first showroom in Gateshead. He also teamed up with New Leaf, offering work placements for local young people.
David moved Floor.Co to a bigger, busier location in Beacon Lough, and secured a major contract with the local council—something his old employer Sandafloor once held.
David’s partner, Laura, joined the business, and a second showroom in Birtley opened just before Christmas. Floor.Co continues to grow, with a focus on supporting young people and expanding the business.
Floor.Co is ready for the next phase, growing its team and commercial work while staying true to its North East roots.
